Today is the official release date for the book How to Start a Home-Based Photography Business, 6th Edition, (Globe Pequot Press, Guilford, CT). I had the opportunity to revise and update the 6th edition of this book over the winter. As co-author, I adapted and updated the book in light of the many changes and advances in technology over the past few years. The book is a good resource for anyone interested in starting a home-based photography business. Some of the highlights added in this addition are information on creating a web site, marketing strategies, and integrating your talents on many levels to enhance your business. The book is available on line or you can also contact me if you have any questions. It is a pleasure to share this exciting news on my first co-authored book. I have ideas for another book…hopefully this is the beginning of a new adventure!!!

Dancing Water
April 11, 2010 by RoseYesterday as I was going from one place to another, I unexpectedly came upon a hidden treasure. I had taken a “wrong” turn (turned out to be exactly where I was meant to be) at the stop sign to my right was this beautiful green house and garden. Tucked within East Rock Park in New Haven, CT is the Pardee Rose Garden and Greenhouse. With the late morning air crispy with springtime and the light so sparkly…my car turned into the parking lot. I had no idea what was awaiting, with my camera I adventured into the greenhouse. The keeper of the space, Matthew, gave me a tour of the greenhouses filled with sprouting plants in various stages. He then brought me into the main greenhouse and tucked in the back among the tropical, luscious plants was a pool of Dancing Water!!!! That was all I needed to see…an hour later, after photographing the water, I felt refreshed, blessed, and so happy I took the “wrong” turn.
Spring Awakening
April 2, 2010 by RoseSisters in Cloth Project
February 25, 2010 by Rose
A new project has begun for 2010. I have been invited to participate in a collaboration with a group of fabric / textile artists (awesome quilters!) called Sisters in Cloth. This group evolved a few years ago from the Guilford, Connecticut “Newcomers” organization. One of the “sisters”, an incredible fabric artist, Diane Wright, contacted me last November and asked if I would be interested in working on a project with the group. The idea is that my photographs will be inspiration, either by color or composition, for their work. We met a few weeks ago and this photo was taken the day I met with the group. They have now chosen 15 images to work with and be inspired by. Each artist will work with the photo they have chosen to interpret. Over the next few months I will also visit each artist in their creative spaces, studios, or kitchen tables, and photograph them working on their pieces. Our ultimate goal is to create an incredible collaborative exhibition of photography and fabric art. Exciting! to be continued...
Winter Light
January 10, 2010 by RoseThe light in winter is filled with the spectrum of subtle to brilliant. Even on the coldest days the crispness of the light can help us depart from the fact we are bundled in layers. The other morning before I went and photographed a beautiful new born named Sophia, I stopped by the Guilford Harbor. It was still snowing a little and the morning light was just coming through the thick clouds. The beauty of this light as it kissed the water was a gift. Enjoy the light that surrounds us this time of year. It helps feed our winter souls.
Light…Water…Flow
December 16, 2009 by Rose…these were the words that came to me as I was creating this photo exhibition for the Madison Art Cinema. During the darkest time of the year, I wanted to infuse the walls with light. This exhibition is a celebration of light and the deep beauty discovered within this light.
I want to thank everyone who joined me at the Artist Reception on Saturday, Dec. 12th. If anyone is interested in seeing the exhibit, the Madison Art Cinema is open during screening times. They have a matinee on Wed., Fri.,Sat., and Sun., with evening screenings daily. If available, I would be happy to meet you at the cinema and personally show you the work. “Light…Water…Flow” will be on exhibit until January 14, 2010
Have a peaceful holiday season.
