Sisters in Cloth Project

February 25th, 2010 , Rose

A new project has begun for 2010.  I have been invited to participate in a collaboration with a group of fabric / textile artists (awesome quilters!) called Sisters in Cloth.  This group evolved a few years ago from the Guilford, Connecticut “Newcomers” organization.  One of the “sisters”, an incredible fabric artist, Diane Wright, contacted me last November and asked if I would be interested in working on a project with the group.  The idea is that my photographs will be inspiration, either by color or composition, for their work.  We met a few weeks ago and this photo was taken the day I met with the group.  They have now chosen 15 images to work with and be inspired by.  Each artist will work with the photo they have chosen to interpret.  Over the next few months I will also visit each artist in their creative spaces, studios, or kitchen tables, and photograph them working on their pieces.  Our ultimate goal is to create an incredible collaborative exhibition of photography and fabric art.  Exciting! to be continued...

  1. Dear Rose,
Such a pleasure to return and read about this new textile inspired project. Each one of your photos seems to be botanical in nature, which is very exciting indeed. I will look forward to seeing how this work evolves. It sounds just great. Your photos, exquisite.
If you or The Sisters In Cloth have not yet been, please try to visit The Textile Museum in Washington, D.C. I now have a life-long fondness and connection to the museum having been the landscape gardener there for over 13 years. Every free moment I would spend up in the galleries or gift shop. Good friends were made there too. One of the greatest institutions for all things textile. Perhaps an exhibition?

Toot your horn please when you drive past Riverview and The Boston Post Road.
    Happy Spring!
